About
My name is Vinícius Gomes Batista. I started my career as a .NET backend developer, already on the modern versions of the platform. Since then I have had a strong interest in infrastructure and security, and I naturally ended up moving into reliability engineering, where I spent most of my time.
What motivated me most was the desire for a holistic view, of both the product and the company. I liked understanding the parts and seeing how they connect and interact. That happened naturally and, in the same way, I developed the urge to express the health of systems, their dependencies and their integrations through dashboards, monitoring them and following their evolution. That led me to a second move, into platform engineering, specifically observability platforms, where I spent my last 12 months.
What you will see on this blog is a mix of what I lived through in that time: mostly lessons that cost me dearly and tips about technical work inside large organizations, which often have rigid processes and an anti-productive culture in the name of stability. But you will also see many philosophical texts, inspired by the works I have been reading and by the thoughts and reflections I have been having. That is part of me, and I would like it to live in the same place.
Along the way, if you read my texts, you will end up getting to know me better.

- Thoughts: quotes from others and a few thoughts of my own, with dates.

“The most important fact that sets the human being apart from all its brothers and cousins on the phylogenetic scale is knowledge; only knowledge frees man, only through knowledge is man free and, being free, he can aspire to a better condition of life for himself and all his fellow beings. I can only understand a society in which knowledge is the foremost reason the government gives for the formation of the citizen. My message is a positive one: that man must know, must understand, and in understanding, he is free.”
